Biography
1992
.cut is born as a distorted electronics solo project, creating experimental soundscapes and images with machines, tools, toys and any raw materials. Since then, .cut has collaborated with many international artists such as: Cheerleader 69 (Punish Yourself), Hypnoskull (Ant Zen), Thee Virginal Brides (Mortal Manifest + The Vomit Arsonist + .cut), Electronic Press Kit, TAT, Mr. Malinou, Cutman (Muckrackers), Contempus Mundi (SK Records), Botchan K. (Divine Comedy Records), Blackula, One Figure (Wan Figures)... and has been remixed by Ambassador 21 (Belarus), BAK XIII (Switzerland), Brain Leisure (France), Hypnoskull (Belgium), Pine Tree State Mind Control (USA).
January 2003
Gibet joins .cut for a semi-improvised show at the now-defunct [kafé myzik] in Lyon, France. The noisy guitar versus minimal electronics performance is compared to a cross between Merzbow and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Over the years, the "industrial post-rock" of .cut evolves and is compared to Psychic TV, Mogwaï, or Cabaret Voltaire: "... le bruit s'accroît / s'enrichit / s'intensifie au cours de la plage; des sons qui font parfois echo à de la Musique Etrange 70, évoquant le film Voyage Au Centre De La Terre..." (Laurent - La Horde Noire - 2004)
January 2004
.CUT FEATURING GIBET appears on the "red" compilation released by [walnut + locust], among such artists as Alexande St-Onge (Shalabi Effect), Letum (Cold Meat Industry), Maggot Breeder, Earskin (Flüffy Erskine - Godspeed You! Black Emperor collaborator), Pine Tree State Mind Control & We Are Gentlemen.
April 2004
.CUT FEATURING GIBET opens for Psyche in Lyon. The show features a buto performance by the experimental theatre actor Sylvère Lagier. The group decides to incorporate performance art into their live shows and will go on to play several shows with Marie-Claire Cordat.
April 2006
.cut releases "Philippe F Remixes", a free-for-download, double album on [walnut + locust]. The album features remixes by artists from around the globe: from Chile to Marocco, Japan to Israël.
Spring 2006
.cut starts a new project: Thee Virginal Brides. The group features Oren (Montal Manifest, Israël) and Andy (The Vomit Arsonist, USA). Their first track appears on the compilation: "With Eyes Wide Open For A Brighter Future", released by the Israeli label House Of The Thousand Lights. The complilation also includes a new track by .cut & One Figure. It is later described as: "... one of the best guitardrones I have heared in the last few months." (Ergo - Gothronic - November 2006).
July 2006
.CUT FEATURING GIBET appears on the second CD compilation released by [walnut + locust]: "CrO2", along with Molasses (Alien8), Ulan Bator, Aube, Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle) among others.
April 2007
.cut pulls up stakes and moves to Montreal, Canada. .cut performs live with local musicians as .cut & Friends. The first track released as .cut & Friends will appear later that year on the compilation "Twisted Faerie Tales" released by [walnut + locust] along with Alexandre St-Onge, Aidan Baken (from Nadja), Whilst (new project from Flüffy Erskine), and others...
Early 2008
.cut plays improvised shows with Maggot Breeder in Montreal and the USA, including one concert at the mighty Casa Del Popolo in February. In the meantime, .cut & Friends are recording the soundtrack of the animated movie "Sous Le Microscope" directed by Françoise Provencher. The film premiere is scheduled at the University Of Montreal in early April 2008.
